Alternative transportation initiatives provide tenants with affordable options to reduce their carbon footprint. Unico encourages the use of convenient & many types of alternative transportation to lessen the impact of pollution and congestion. Unico offers Zipcars in many building parking garages and has teamed with King County Metro (and other local transportation authorities) to offer mass transit discounts to employees and tenants. In the Metropolitan Tract garages in Seattle, Unico offers tenants a half month parking option to encourage them to use an alternative form of commuting during the month and enjoy full parking privileges for the other 11 days. Coming in September 2010, Unico’s Rainier Square garage in downtown Seattle will be one of the first sites nationally to have four electric car charging stations. This national EV project is a partnership with DOE, Ecotality North America, and the new Nissan Leaf all-electric vehicle. In addition to championing mass transit and alternative commuting options, biking is a corporate passion. Bike parking is free to tenants at all of our office properties, with showers and lockers also available at most office buildings. “We leverage Unico’s tenant amenities to attract and retain personnel in a competitive market for highly qualified technical talent. Of particular value to us, given our downtown location and sensitivity to environmental issues, is your commitment to alternative commuting. We applaud your commitment and the recognition you've received from Seattle's mayor for your efforts.”
